PHP/Laravel/SymfonyLinuxDockerCI/CDPython/FastAPILegacy rescue

Stabilize, then evolve your critical web platforms.

I help SaaS companies, SMBs and agencies regain control of unstable or legacy systems, then build on top of them: new features, progressive rewrites, automation.

I stabilize what exists, then build on it, without starting over.

Two ways to work together

Stabilize

Audit, rescue, retainer. Bring the system back under control.

Build

Custom development, progressive rewrites, automation & AI.

Services

It usually starts with an audit and continues as a build.

Two tracks, one point of contact. You can start with either one.

Stabilize what exists

/ regain control

Stabilization Audit

Targeted review of backend, infrastructure, CI/CD, performance and technical debt. You leave with prioritized risks and a realistic roadmap.

5–10 days

Technical Rescue

Senior intervention on production incidents, degraded performance or dangerous deployments. Goal: system back under control, fast.

start within 48h

Stabilization Retainer

Reserved capacity every month: incident review, deployment support, technical prioritization. Async-first, clear scope.

monthly · 2 to 8 days / month

Build on top of it

/ move the product forward

Custom development

Features, modules and APIs built inside your existing codebase, or from scratch when that is the right call. Delivered tested, deployable, documented.

engagements from 2 weeks to 6 months

Progressive legacy rewrite

Modernize without a big bang: batch by batch, version upgrades, module extraction. The platform stays in production throughout.

batch by batch · zero downtime

Automation & AI integrations

Manual tasks automated, third-party integrations, data pipelines, AI components wired into your existing systems.

short engagements · measurable ROI

Stabilize

Most engagements start with an audit and continue as development work.

Recent engagements

What a typical engagement looks like: a system under strain, a scoped intervention, a measurable result.

HR / recruiting · SaaS for SMBs · PHP · React · MySQL

Before

A production SaaS ATS running on a legacy PHP 5 stack: frozen version, hand-rolled risky deployments, a monolith hard to evolve.

Intervention

Migrated PHP to a supported version, rebuilt CI and deployment, then modernized step by step: split the backend (custom PHP framework) from the frontend, rewritten in React.

After

A decoupled platform, reliable deployments, a sound base for product work. The service stayed in production throughout the rework.

Measured result

Out of legacy PHP 5, rework delivered without product downtime

CSR / compliance · B2B SaaS · Symfony · React · AI

Before

Everything to build: CSR certification dossiers assembled by hand, company documents scattered around, no tool to qualify the evidence or track progress.

Intervention

Designed the platform from scratch: an AI-ready document processing pipeline (OCR, normalization, encrypted S3 archiving), an AI workflow to qualify documents and guide the dossier step by step, with observability and CI/build/deploy from day one.

After

A production SaaS that centralizes documents, qualifies them with AI and walks the company toward its certification dossier.

Measured result

From a blank page to a production SaaS, AI workflow included

When technology slows down the business

I step in when:

production becomes unstable
bugs keep coming back
deployments are stressful
nobody wants to touch the legacy code
backend performance degrades
technical debt is blocking deliveries
the team lacks an autonomous senior backend/devops
a key feature has stopped moving forward
the rewrite gets postponed year after year

A structured engagement, without the chaos

25+ years on production web systems. I combine backend, infrastructure, deployment and complex debugging in a single person, which avoids the back-and-forth between three vendors when the failure sits right between them.

  • Fast understanding of existing codebases
  • Pragmatic diagnosis, prioritized by real risk
  • Able to operate solo, without supervision
  • Architecture vision + execution
  • Async communication, few meetings

Less well

Permanent on-call without a defined framework · Close supervision at every step · Contexts where stability isn't a priority · High-volume delivery without technical thinking

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the audit and the rescue?

The audit answers "what is wrong and in what order should it be fixed". The rescue deals with the immediate problem, right now.

Do you also build, or only fix?

Both. A good share of engagements start with stabilization and continue as custom development.

Will you take over a project someone else started?

Yes, that is actually the most common case. Inherited codebase, no documentation, developer gone: that is my territory.

How does a first engagement work?

A 20-minute call, read access, a first written diagnosis within 48h. Only then do we talk scope.

Do you work remotely?

Yes, fully remote from Québec, async-first. I work regularly with teams in Europe.

What type of client are you the right fit for?

SaaS companies, SMBs and agencies with a production platform that matters, and no senior backend/devops in-house.
